Leon County’s Children’s Services Council to Host “Listening Sessions”

Leon County’s Children’s Services Council to Host “Listening Sessions”

The Children’s Services Council (CSC) of Leon County announced to today that the group will host three listening sessions across the county for families to offer direct input on how anticipated community investment funding should be used.

On January 26 and 31, and February 1, participants will have the opportunity to discuss possible program funding with members of the CSC Leon team and Council Members regarding “Family Supports”—specifically, what it means to them, and the types of family support services needed in their community and neighborhoods.

The CSC press release notes that the “goal of these sessions is to provide an inclusive setting for open and honest input from those who most need family supportive services. CSC Leon wants to ensure community investments funded by the Council are representative of the families it ultimately seeks to serve.”

“Parents, caregivers and families truly are the experts when it comes to knowing what they need to help them provide for the children and youth in their care,” explains Cecka Rose Green, CSC Leon executive director. “While we have data to help inform and shape funding decisions, it works best with input from the people who will benefit from the programming. These listening sessions are designed to encourage any and every person caring for our kiddos in a family setting to let us know what they need and how best the Council can support them.”

To reduce the barriers to families participating, each session is located on a bus route and food will be served. Additionally, childcare is being offered for those families that need it. While any county resident can attend, those residing in or adjacent to each location are strongly encouraged to participate. Families interested in participating in one of the three sessions can sign up using this link.

The dates, times and locations of meetings are provided below:

Thursday, January 26, Sabal Palm Elementary, 813 Ridgeway Street, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, January 31, Jack McLean Community Center, 700 E. Paul Russell Road, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, February 1, Lake Jackson Community Center, 3840 N. Monroe Street, Unit 301, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

  1. @Dennis Barton

Great point. No, there seems to be little or no consideration given to what taxpayers want!

CSC has already committed six figures in political payback to the Chamber of Commerce who sold out whatever “pro-business” principles they had to support the tax hike politically back during the pandemic.

Raising taxes and housing costs during the pandemic for… what? The mayor’s FPL lobbyist wife called opponents “extreme” for objecting to the tax and spend blank check during a debate.

We have already seen massive salaries and overhead, just like we see at Blueprint. The director makes $130,000 plus benefits. All public property tax money.

What we have not seen from the CSC is any results. Besides higher taxes, rents etc to put public money into a bureaucratic slush fund for elite insiders. David Bellamy supported it, Dailey, Williams-Cox, swamp establishment creatures all endorsed it.

Once you get past the police Union freak-out, you see Porter, Matlow anti-Doak grass roots candidates are usually *much* more compatible with fiscal responsibility and thoughtful Republicans.

  2. So they are going to hold meeting ” regarding “Family Supports”—specifically, what it means to them, and the types of family support services needed in their community and neighborhoods. Are there any meeting planned to listen to “Tax Payers” and how their money is being spent?

  3. As Preston Scott said this week, the CSC was a big mistake.

Matlow stood strong in opposition against this Chambercrat tax hike proposed and created by John Dailey and we should always remember that. Insiders are not our friend$

  4. ~ “Parents, caregivers and families truly are the experts when it comes to knowing what they need to help them provide for the children and youth in their care,” explains Cecka Rose Green, CSC Leon executive director.

And using tax dollars to pay for their parental, caregiver, and family responsibilities will not help any of them become accountable or responsible as parents, caregivers, or families. When government and our tax dollars become the go-to for individual accountability and responsibility… our society will surely crumble.

  5. You have been up and Running now for about 2 Years and you are just NOW getting around to asking Families what they want? WTH have you been doing?

  6. Yes thank you honorable members of the CSC for asking for our input on how your funding should be spent. My name is Richardson Dozier Daily Hanna and I feel a good bit of the money should go back to the esteemed politicians that were instrumental in getting the CSC up and running. They did a great job convincing the Sheeple…uhhh… I mean our great voters of Tallahassee/Leon to approve the vast sums of taxpayer money in our CSC jackpot of cash; that I strongly suggest our esteemed politicions be greatly rewarded in the form of untraceable campagine contributions. Thank you very much for allowing me to voice my input and keep in mind if you esteemed council members desire increased annual funding for such things as…oh I dont know…but lets just say your pay increases and certian under the table payments I strongly suggest you esteemed council members give consideration to my “suggestion”.

  7. SHAM!

Just another slush fund used to funnel money into Democratic Party elected officials’ campaign accounts under the guise of helping children.

Still waiting for the report showing receipts from the $100k payout to the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.
