Local News

Leon County Superintendent Rocky Hanna filed for re-election yesterday. Hanna said he was “proud of our accomplishments over the last 6 years my work is not yet finished. The nearly two year COVID interruption put several priorities on hold and I am committed to finishing the job I started in 2016.” Instead of running as an NPA like previous election cycles, he is now running as a Democrat in accordance with state law.

Continuing through May 2023, TPD will conduct proactive patrols in pre-determined areas through a High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) detail to reduce the number of crashes related to pedestrians and bicyclists in those areas. HVE details are funded through a contract with the University of North Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation. The goal of this enforcement effort is to increase compliance and awareness regarding traffic laws related to pedestrian and bicyclist safety in pre-determined areas that have been identified as having a high number of traffic crashes.

Evan Power, the Chair of the Leon County Republican Party, will appears on the Steve Stewart Show on Real Talk 93.3 FM at 12:15 today.

Florida News

As the Congressional House vote for Speaker continues to on into its third day, Florida’s congressional delegation is showing there may be divided visions for the future of Republican politics. Florida Congressman Byron Donalds was nominated for the role of House Speaker as one of twenty GOP representatives are bucking the approval of a new speaker. Congresswoman Kat Cammack rose to nominate Rep. Kevin McCarthy yesterday, as well. Representatives Matt Gaetz and Anna Paulina Luna are the other two Florida voices opposing McCarthy’s speakership.

In the wake of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ inauguration address, Florida House Democrats have said DeSantis was not “speaking to the people.” “Any time he wants to distract from his own failed record, he creates a new fake “woke” boogeyman to battle but doesn’t really address real issues Floridians are struggling with like housing affordability and health care that doesn’t bankrupt families,” said State Rep. Fentrice Driskell.

Sports News

Florida State receiver Keyshawn Helton, who entered the transfer portal, announced his commitment to Head Coach Scott Satterfield and the Cincinnati Bearcats. Helton suffered a season ending injury in 2019 and has been battling on the depth chart since he arrived in the class of 2018. He finished his Seminole career with 61 receptions for 819 yards and eight touchdowns.

FSU Tight End, Wyatt Rector, announced he is heading to the NFL Draft. Rector has spent much of his Seminole career on special teams but was named Florida State’s co-special teams player of the year.

Noles safety Akeem Dent also announced he is returning to the Florida State as he entered into an NIL deal with FSU affiliated Battle’s End Collective. A number of other players announced deals with the collective including Mycah Pittman, quarterback AJ Duffy, and cornerback Azareyeh Thomas.

  1. Would the Democrats rather have McCarthy or Trump for Speaker of the House?

If Democrats don’t cross the aisle Trump will be nominated and win!

  2. Bicyclists and Cars in the same lane are a recipe for disaster. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Whatever geniuses at the COT pulled that from their book of good ideas needs to be fired.

  3. I sure hope TPD will get more Proactive in writing Pedestrians and Bicyclists Tickets. Jaywalkers and Slow Walkers need to be Ticketed and many Bicyclists run Red Lights and will pass Cars on the Shoulder to get in front of the line at Red Lights.

  4. If we acknowledge that the Uni-Party system in DC is broken and dysfunctional, why would we want to continue with the status quo? America has experienced enough of the Establishment’s “experience”. What the Republican Establishment has refused to realize is that voters did not elect Donald Trump because he was a member of the typical Establishment. Voters elected Trump to the Presidency precisely because he wasn’t a member of the typical Establishment and would likely turn the Swamp on its head… which he did. Which is also why both sides of the Swamp went after him… not just Democrats.

The process unfolding in DC is not a problem – as so many of the Establishment and their Media PACs would have you believe. Our Republic is on the verge of collapse, and the status quo has no intention of correcting that path. If you want to blame someone for McCarthy’s inability to secure the votes… blame Mitch McConnell and the Senate RINOs that joined with Schumer and Biden to ignore the current invasion of our sovereign land, and forward the Marxicrat’s Destroy America Agenda. Their support of this ridiculous Marxicrat omnibus proved once again that the two-party system is a façade. New leadership is needed across the board, and I for one think that making Byron Donalds the Speaker would be an excellent start in an effort to correct the dangerous path the DC Uni-Party has but us on.
