Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor on AP Black History Course: ” I Think it’s Trash.”

This past week Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor did not mince words when he addressed the recent controversy over the Florida Department of Education denied approval of an AP African American history course.

During the closing minutes of the January 24th Leon County Commission meeting, Proctor addressed the course and said “I think it’s trash.”

Proctor, who has taught government courses at Florida A&M, has oftentimes found himself at odds with Governor DeSantis, but not on this issue.

Proctor’s complete comments are provided below:

“There is grave concern about the tone and the tenor of leadership’s voice from the highest spaces in our state being hostile to teaching of African American history,” Proctor said. “Well frankly I’m against the College Board’s curriculum. I think it’s trash. It’s not African American history. It is ideology. I’ve taught African American history, I’ve structed syllabuses for African American history. I am African American history. And talking about ‘queer’ and ‘feminism’ and all of that for the struggle for freedom and equality and justice has not been no tension with queerness and feminist thought at all.”

  1. Yes, queer topics and feminism should have no room in black education (this includes BLM).

Homosexual lifestyles lead to extinction and feminism puts women in variance with their men, disrupting the balance of the home, which leads to boys and girls without stability and solid foundations…which is why in today’s generation boy’s don’t know what it is to be a man, and girls don’t know what it is to be a woman. Feeding them these toxic, wayward, disordered topics is to indoctrinate the next generation to continue along the route of self-destruction.

The media is a mob. People look at the titles of the stories published by these propaganda stations and ignorant, trigger-happy people just run along with whatever they see, without even checking sources or reading the original source, OR even thinking critically about them possibly being sold a narrative. An uninformed public is a dangerous one.

  2. I love Libs like David (posted Jan 29/12:16 pm ) who says “Wow! lots of hate on here…” then immediatly questions the knowledge of those haters as well as calling DeSantis a racist AND a bigot.
Wow! Feeling a bit of hate there, David? What absurd, baseless, comments.
Libs are awful at most everything, but projecting? That is somewhere they excell.

  3. Intersections and similarities between America’s historically marginalized groups, including LGBTQ groups and African-Americans, is historical fact and worthy of inclusion in a Black History AP class. Yes, it goes beyond memorizing the date of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Professor Larry Rivers at FAMU, the dean of African-American historians supports the AP course. I will accept his judgement over Bill Proctor’s a double dipping, double talking politician.

  4. Wow! Lots of hate on here. I wonder how many of them have actually read the course material,or are just taking DeSantis’ racist, bigoted word. Even if there were portions that could be better stated, to call the entire piece “trash” is and affront to those trying to defend equality for all, i.e., Blacks, gays, women.

  5. And just how would Proctor like an AP course to present the fact that L&G and feminists have historically supported African American (AA) struggles? That support is not ideology, which refers to a set of political beliefs or a set of ideas, it’s historical fact. Does that fact not have a place in Proctor’s version of AA history? He seems to be buying in to divide and conquer tactics.

  6. Be careful there NE Not-so-much… your true Marxicrat ideology bubble is showing more and more with every post. Proctor has made his mistakes to be sure, but he’s right on this. Your inability to give credit when due, exposes your true colors and disdain for inclusion.

  7. Other than rushing in for political points in a percieved bashing of Desantis and attorney’s fees I’ve been thinking what else would motivate Black leaders lash out at Florida’s right to ban the queer theory aspect of the Black History course? Hmmmm think Snidely…what could it be?
I’ve got just two words – Closet Queens – OK I’m done.

  8. Bill clearly gone off the deep end. First he supports revolving door politicians “cashing in” as lobbyists, now this. Even wilder than his transactional Dailey 😉 endorsement.

Go back and look at what JT Burnette said to FBI informants about how you can influence Bill..

  9. This is outstanding that commissioner Proctor recognizes that it is not history, it is a political ideology. Now, if Commissioner Proctor would go across the street and talk some sense into City Commissioner Curtis Richardson and tell Curtis to stay in his lane and tend to City Affairs and not political ideologies.

Back in the day Commissioner Proctor was in the race for his County Commission seat and his opponent was Curtis Richardson. Bill Proctor pulled out the win over Richardson.

Today Commissioner Proctor exudes a good academic and scholar and kudos to him!

  10. Kudos to Commissioner Proctor for stating the obvious and confirming why Governor DeSantis took action on this… it’s not African American history; it’s queer ideology trash. I wonder how long it will take for his Marxicrat Party colleagues to label him a white supremacist.

Let us hope he has the courage to stand on his convictions, and not be intimidated into backtracking and/or apologizing.

  11. In your face Rocky. Yeah I know we are talking college level here and K – 12 for Rocky. But there are some common elements here too.
Thank you Bill and not helpful for Rocky in his time of being investigated by the State DOE.

Oh wait – well dispite the fact I could go on and on by elevating it to the Washington DC level; I sense the audiance gets the point and collectivley has had just about enough.
