CSC Board Member Questions Need for Increase in Staff

CSC Board Member Questions Need for Increase in Staff

On March 13th, the CSC of Leon County Executive Committee had a long, sometimes heated debate on whether to add three additional staff positions. Two of the positions would be for a Programing Quality Assurance Specialist and one for a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator.

Board Member Paul Mitchell labeled the need for more staff as “outrageous.” He noted that he tried to get into the mindset of someone who would try to bring this forward. Mitchell explained to Executive Director Cecka Green that he didn’t understand what she and her team where doing or what was happening on their side. He noted it would be easier for him to make a decision on additional resources if he knew what was happening. He went on to say that the board is currently funding zero programs and asked, “What are we doing with the resources we currently have?”

Executive Director Green explained the workload of her team and went on to say, “Forgive me if I seem a little stoic, because it’s almost as if there’s no appreciation for the groundwork that has to be done.” She claimed the current staff model with her team of four wouldn’t be sustainable and continued, “We’re busting our butts. There’s no other way to say it, trying to get the council what it needs.”  Mitchell remarked, “There are ten volunteers who sit on this council and bust our asses too.” He continued, “And guess what, there’s no room for being stoic we just have to do our work and roll up our sleeves.”

Board Members Zandra Glenn and Terrence Watts leaned in favor of the two additional positions for Programing Quality Assurance Specialist but not for a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator.

The Executive Committee did not reach a consensus and decided to bring the issue to the full board at the next regular CSC meeting on March 23rd.

  1. Disband the CSC. This is nothing but well funded bureaucrats collecting outrageous salaries to dole out taxpayer money to whatever “programs” the bureaucrats deem worthy. Good time to remember Ben Franklins words: “ think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer.” He would most likely note that the “problem-solvers” in the poor industry sure live pretty dam well.

  2. Agree with all of the above. Thank you Paul Mitchell for speaking common sense and watching out for the TAXPAYERS who fund these questionable programs.
How about an Action Plan with goals and check off column?

  3. Does the CSC operate under Leon County?
Also, exactly what services does this council offer that can’t be received through programs that Children and Families already offer? Or grant programs?

  4. Board member Paul Mitchell should forward this to a special prosecutor or FDLE to investigate this criminal enterprise called the CSC.

The CSC director has too close of ties to the Gillum 23 recent indictments for financial fraud.

The $100,000 payout to the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce by the CSC should be investigated for financial fraud. This has nothing to do with helping children and in my opinion was a campaign payout. An investigation for criminal fraud is the appropriate move here.

  5. If you need Two people for Programing Quality Assurance Specialists and one person for a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator then, WHAT THE HELL DO THE REST OF YOU DO?
