Killearn Homes Association Raises Concern Over Possible Changes to NE Gateway Project

In a letter to Blueprint officials, the Killearn Homes Association (KHA) has voiced concerns about the addition of a road connecting Centerville Road to the Northeast Gateway/Welaunee Blvd. (NE Gateway) project.

Previously, KHA had reached an agreement with officials that indicated there would be two connections from the NE Gateway – one at Shamrock & one at Roberts -, the Shamrock extension would be a “rural road”, and the construction phasing of the two entrances would open concurrently.

However, it appears things have changed.

The letter – dated April 20 – states, “This year, Killearn Homes Association has been involved in multiple meetings and conversations with local government officials, as well as legal counsel from several of the involved parties. Each of these entities have suggested that plans are actively being discussed to convert the Farm Road located south of Pimlico Drive and north of Shamrock South, into a public road connecting Welaunee Boulevard to Centerville Road almost directly across from McLaughlin Drive.”

The letter states that the KHA “vehemently” opposes the construction of any additional public road connecting Welaunee Boulevard to Centerville Road in addition to the approved Shamrock Extension, Roberts Road, and Pimlico
Extension.

Leon County Commissioner Brian Welch told TR that the issue relates to providing access to the Leon County park that is planned for property adjacent to Centerville Road.

Welch said the issue will probably be addressed at the next Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency meeting.

  1. How is Walaunee going to get past I-10? Are they going to build an overpass? I don’t see what the Killearn people are upset about, an alternate route will take traffic off Centerville.

  2. Gee Whiz. Blueprint moves the goalpost again and bends the homeowners of Killearn over again. Time for an audit of BP, our 3rd form of government.

The last time homeowners were bent over a rail was when happened was when the KHA board hired and paid one Max Herrle to help stop the Shamrock South Welaunee Boulevard connector road. Ha!

I only ever saw Herrle in the parking lot of a Citizens advisory council meeting yucking it up with Ben Pingree.

    SUCKERS!

  3. We need to divert traffic off of Centerville. I don’t understand the issue of connecting to Walaunee. The traffic has to go somewhere. It will ease the congestion. This is the same NIBY crap people were upset about when Blaire Stone was being proposed and built. Now look at all the traffic that moves across it and utilizes it.
