LCS Agenda Review & Workshop Addresses Absenteeism, Grad Rates, & School Grades

Below are news briefs from the Leon County School Board agenda review/workshop meeting that was held on December 11, 2023.

Staff gave a presentation to the Board on graduation rates and what to expect moving forward. Staff noted that based on the data trends in 2022, the Covid pandemic had a significant impact on the class of 2022. The 2021-22 graduation rate was 86.8%, down from the 2021 rate of 94.0%. Additionally, staff explained that while Leon County was doing its best to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, the class of 2023 would likely mirror the 2022 graduation rates.

Staff gave the Board an overview on chronic absenteeism data and their plans moving forward to combat the issue. Staff explained that homelessness is one of the root causes for the uptick in chronic absenteeism. Additionally, the Council on the Status of Men and Boys announced they would be working with Leon County Schools with a new program to help reduce absenteeism.

The Board discussed Leon County School grades for the 2022-2023 school year. Superintendent Rocky Hanna said he was pleased with the results, noting there were no failing grades for any school and that every middle school and high school (except for Godby High School) had a C grade or higher.

Staff gave the Board an overview on several policy updates, including provisions made to the Standards of Ethical Conduct which prohibit teachers from intentionally teaching students about sexual orientation or gender identity. The policy further states that teachers may not intentionally teach 9 through 12 graders on sexual orientation or gender identity as well, unless such instruction is required by the State academic standards.

Staff also discussed a new policy update that would require teachers to create a designated area for cell phones to be stored in the classroom.

  1. Families CAN BE homeless and be in school. It is called FIT. And while it isn’t the only cause for chronic absenteeism, it is a huge factor.

  2. 1. “Staff noted that based on the data trends in 2022, the Covid pandemic had a significant impact on the class of 2022.”

Correction: It was not the China Bioweapon Flu itself that had a significant impact, it was the government’s overreaction and totalitarian mindset that had a significant impact.

    2. “… homelessness is one of the root causes for the uptick in chronic absenteeism.”

Correction: One cannot even register for Public School without a home address.

    3. “Superintendent Rocky Hanna said he was pleased with the results… and that every middle school and high school (except for Godby High School) had a C grade or higher.”

Comment: It’s good to know that the Stupidindendent is “pleased” with mediocre results of his so-called leadership.

    4. “…prohibit teachers from intentionally teaching students about sexual orientation or gender identity… teachers may not intentionally teach 9 through 12 graders on sexual orientation or gender identity as well…”

Warning: Words have meaning, and the repetitive use of the word “intentionally” is not an accident. This is the backdoor (npi) to their warped groomer & pedo agenda. They will assuredly continue with their evil and twisted agenda, and if caught, claim it wasn’t “intentional”. They will then get a pass and go right back to it. Never forget that these are deviously evil people committed to destroying this Republic and what We stand for.

  3. “…The policy further states that teachers may not intentionally teach 9 through 12 graders on sexual orientation or gender identity as well……” …………………….. Shouldn’t that be 1st. Grade to 12th Grade?

“Staff also discussed a new policy update that would require teachers to create a designated area for cell phones to be stored in the classroom.” ……………………… I am surprised that wasn’t done long ago.
