Dozens of officers swarmed an area of North Tallahassee Friday afternoon after an officer was shot in the area, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. It happened during a ‘violent’ arrest attempt, according to a department press release.

Florida State men’s basketball, which defeated Miami, 83-75, on the final day of the ACC regular season on Saturday, will face Virginia Tech on Wednesday, March 13 at 12 Noon at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. in the second round of the 2024 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Florida State women’s basketball fell to the NC State Wolfpack in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Saturday 69-43. NC State outrebounded Florida State 58-32 and held the Seminoles to 25 percent shooting from the field. Despite the loss, the season is likely not over as the Noles are expected to make the NCAA Tournament. The bracket will be announced next Sunday night.

Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke after the Florida Legislature concluded its 2024 Legislative Session Friday, congratulating lawmakers on another productive 60 days. DeSantis said while he will be “trimming” the lawmakers’ approved budget, net spending per capita will decrease. “Some of the investments […] These are monumental investments,” DeSantis said.

A bill cracking down on retail theft and “porch pirates” will head to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk. The bill “creates aggregated theft thresholds” as well as enhancing penalties for five or more criminals “working in concert to overwhelm a retail store or merchant.”

With Daylight Savings Time returning, Florida’s Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are renewing their push for the Sunshine Protection Act. “It’s time to lock the clock,” Scott said. “Floridians are sick of changing their clocks because we all want more sunshine. It’s time for Congress to act and I’m proud to be leading the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act with Senator Rubio to get this done.

NATIONAL NEWS

The US Senate, by a vote of 75-22passed a $460B package of six spending bills to fund a group of federal agencies through the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, avoiding a partial government shutdown hours before a midnight deadline. The measure passed the House earlier this week by a vote of 339-85. 

US economy added 275,000 jobs in February, exceeding expectations. The latest figure marks the third straight month of job gains above 200,000 and is the 39th consecutive month of gains overall. Economists had estimated roughly 200,000 jobs for the month. The unemployment rate in February rose to 3.9% from 3.7% in the previous month. Average hourly earnings rose 0.1% month-over-month and 4.3% year-over-year.

    Looks like Ms. Porter has something to HIDE which is why she REFUSES to say who paid for her Trips.
