Gas Prices Drop Below $3

The News Service of Florida

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Florida has dropped below $3, at least in part because of fears about the effects of a trade war.

The AAA auto club said Florida motorists paid an average of $2.92 a gallon on Monday, down 16 cents from a week earlier. The national average price Monday was $3.14 a gallon, down 3 cents from a week earlier.

“Florida drivers are seeing the lowest gas prices in 17 months,” Mark Jenkins, an AAA spokesman, said in a prepared statement. “Prices dipped due to fears that the trade war could trigger a recession and reduce fuel demand.

However, reports of easing tensions pushed oil prices higher last week, which could result in rising prices at the pump.” Average prices Monday ranged from $2.78 a gallon in the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach and Panama City areas to $3.04 in the Gainesville and West Palm Beach-Boca Raton areas, according to AAA.
