The Tallahassee Police Department is currently conducting a homicide investigation following a call for service at approximately 8:10 p.m., in the 1300 block of Nylic Street. When officers arrived on scene, they located one adult victim suffering from a suspected gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel on scene.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has opened a campaign account to run for governor in 2026, according to the state Division of Elections website. Demings is the second prominent Democrat to file paperwork for the race, joining former Congressman David Jolly.

The Trump administration said yesterday it will partially fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program this month amid the federal government shutdown—now tied for the longest in US history. The update comes after funding for the program, colloquially known as food stamps, lapsed over the weekend.
