Tallahassee City Commissioners Jeremy Matlow and Jack Porter recently commented on social media about the altercation between an ICE official and a protester who interfered with a law enforcement action, calling the incident murder and unprovoked.
Both posts generated significant push back in the comment sections of the posts.
No other local officials have commented on the incident.
Porter’s Post
On January 8th, Commissioner Jack Porter posted on her social media accounts calling the altercation “unprovoked.”
Porter posted, “RIP Renee Good. I am at a loss for words. The unprovoked shooting of an unarmed legal observer by the federal government is reprehensible and terrifying, as well as a clear attempt to silence dissent and terrorize communities for exercising their constitutional right to protest. ICE does not make us safe. Accountability is essential to safety, not a threat to it. Tallahassee’s own collaboration with ICE must end. My heart goes out to Renee Good’s family and loved ones and I stand in solidarity with the Twin Cities.”

While there is debate about the outcome of the incident, facts indicate that the protester blocked traffic, disobeyed a command from federal officer, and attempted to drive away with an officer positioned in the path of the car.
One commenter stated:
“Unprovoked? Are you out of your mind? Or are you just lying for political purposes? She was stalking, harassing, obstructing, and provoking federal agents performing lawful operations, culminating in her launching her car at one of the agents for no reason whatsoever. There was no reason at all for her to have been there in the first place, and SHE is directly responsible for the escalation that led to her death. All she had to do was not launch her car at the agent and she’d be alive today. That’s all. That’s a pretty low bar. Rhetoric like yours is what inspires people to engage in actions like this in the first place and you are going to get more people killed.”
Another commenter supported Porter’s post:
“Thank you Commissioner Jack Porter, for all you have done, what you stand for and for your solidarity, the People appreciate you”
Matlow’s Post
On January 11th, city commissioner and mayoral candidate Jeremy posted on his campaign social media account, “The murder we saw in Minneapolis should be a wake up call for all of us.”

Matlow’s assessment generated significant pushback.
One post stated, “So you have all the facts? That’s your problem, and others, rush to judgment. Judge, jury and executioner all in one. To say she was ‘executed’ is just another inflammatory remark to rile your leftist base. I’ll wait til the dust settles before putting myself in anybody’s shoes.”
Another wrote, “You are right they do not have the right to execute Citizens. And Citizens can protest But they don’t have the right to interfere with the federal Agents And they don’t have the right to flee from them when they are told to get out of the vehicle. Protesting is 1 thing Interfering is another.”
Others supported Matlow’s comment.
One commenter wrote, ” No he is right. She was murdered.”

When I was in the third grade, our family was touched by an international incident that I really didn’t understand until MSNBC made a documentary on it many years later.
A family member was a missionary doctor and saw 250 patients a day in the Congo. It was a dangerous political hotbed and he was taken hostage. After a year of my family member and others being held hostage the Belgium Allied Forces went in to rescue the hostages. President Johnson asked if the missionary doctor was okay. President Johnson was told no he did not make it. The family member helped the last person over the fence trying to escape gunfire and my family member was shot and killed. President Johnson was devastated when when he was given the news.
The family member was honored on the cover of Time magazine and the city we lived in awarded my mother the citizen of the year award.
Even though our family and family members were and still are conservatives, President Johnson didn’t take that into account. He didn’t call us names. He wasn’t unkind.
I believe it is fair to report news on all sides. As a conservative I support law enforcement.
I am disappointed in News Maven, Dwight, and August that they have to resort to name calling and not keeping it on a level of integrity and kindness.
I am always amazed when politicians feel it a civic duty opine on incendiary topics that do nothing to promote harmony or quell the fears and angst of their constituents.
Their Pavlovian response to any polemic tragedy is always guaranteed to be one that appeals and appeases to their base.
Notwithstanding, the public is manipulated and gaslighted by the media to provoke outrage on both the right and left. The media are not interested in truth–far from it. It is not to say that there are no honest journalists; however, they are few in number and not easily found by the indolent.
The press chooses which stories to promote and keep before our eyeballs while completely ignoring or burying news that the public should know. I doubt that many Americans know who Miriam Carey is. She was killed by the DC Capitol Police in 2013. It seems that she got confused and found herself lost in the area of the White House. She was struck five times from behind in the hail of bullets fired by police. She had her thirteen month old child in the back seat of the car. The baby was unharmed. This story may have made it through two news cycles if that. No one ever “said her name”. There were no “protestors” demanding justice.
Only stories that promote the destruction of our nation gain traction and remain in the headlines. In 2013 Miriam Carey was just another nearly nameless casualty. Wake up, people! There is an entity that wishes to annihilate our nation–and it’s not Democrat or Republican. These binary forces are mere tools to get the job done.
I disagree. If you’re not shooting they don’t need to either. No on should get shot for driving away.
Arthur Kirby seems to have lodged his head in a warm dark crevice. Prudence should help her boy out and give his neck a good tug…
God Bless Our Law Enforcement, and anyone who tries to thwart their efforts by getting in their way, should expect to get shot.
I would contribute to a GoFundMe account that raised money to fly Jackboot Porter and Pizza Boy to Minneapolis.
One way.
Matlow and Porter pander. Water is wet.
The proof is in the pudding, or in this case a CNN video. It’s clear that the officer was struck directly by the SUV, not just “brushed”.
Watch the CNN video at the 3:10 mark. (The link is queued to 3:07).

The woman and her wife were professional agitators and put themselves in harms way. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Dwight,
Please don’t make false accusations and attempt to deflect from the truth. This should be a fair and balanced publication and it further reduces credibility when there are callow responses such as yours.
Looking forward to responsible reporting tomorrow on the shenanigans going down at CRA. Board meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m.
Of course, TR has already been scooped by another publication on the marijuana dispensary that is trying to be secretly put off on taxpayers in the amount of $750,000. Also, TR was scooped by the Tallahassee Democrat today on the $30,000 nonsense where a board member was caught on double dipping and will have to recuse himself.
Didn’t hear it first on Tallahassee Reports now, did we? But, looking forward to Tallahassee Reports reporting on this.
@ DeepStatePropagandist:
“Capital police were killed that day.”
NOPE… total lie, but facts often confuse the mentally bankrupt.
I have said this elsewhere and I am confident in my position. First, just because there were Federal agents involved, unless something else is published, Ms. Good did not have to cooperate, stay, or even speak with the agent. She is a U.S. citizen and they are ICE agents. She was under no obligation. Second, Both DHS and DOJ manuals reflect two things pertaining to use of deadly force. Agents are prohibited from firing at moving vehicles and / or suspects within moving vehicles. It appears the agent placed himself in proximity to the vehicle. Both manuals express the necessity to withdraw or to move / remove themselves from harm’s way. (citations available upon request) Last, both manuals and FLETC training standards are centric to Tennessee v. Garner. It would seem the agent placed fellow agents, bystanders and non-involved civilians in jeopardy. With the number of people and agents involved, along with an unclear field down range, I am at a loss to understand how this incident happened. Based on what I saw and knowable currently available, I question whether the agent had cause to even unholsted his firearm let alone escalate to the level of force under continuum. Since viewing, I was left wondering what the drive home for his teammates was like.
“Imagine the conservative outrage if capital police had done the same thing to the J6 rioters.”
“Does the name Ashli Babitt ring a bell?”
Yeah. And conservatives freaked out! Trump called her a hero!
It would have been a more valid comparison if thousands of J6ers had gotten shot. There were literally thousands of people refusing lawful orders to stand down. Capital police were killed that day. All of them got pardoned by Trump. No conservatives were outraged at how people who were breaking the law got freebie passes.
*That is why conservatives are hypocrites*.
Thanks for pointing it out. Great work.
Hey @Prudence (aka Jeremy Matlow) Where was your fake outrage and protests for Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and Kayla Hamilton?? Spare us your fake tears.
@ DeepStatePropagandist:
“Imagine the conservative outrage if capital police had done the same thing to the J6 rioters.”
Does the name Ashli Babitt ring a bell?
Albeit a tragedy that was bound to happen due to these paid-for anti-America rent-a-mob anarchists, it clearly wasn’t “unprovoked” or “murder”.
Imagine the conservative outrage if capital police had done the same thing to the J6 rioters. It’s always hypocrisy from conservatives, always.
“No other local officials have commented on the incident.”
What a bunch of cowards they are.
“So you have all the facts? That’s your problem, and others, rush to judgment.”
I’m sure this commentor was so upset about Puppy Killer Noem going on TV an hour after the shooting and calling the woman a ‘domestic terrorist’.
The good news is that we should all feel much safer because, yes, the woman who was shot was clearly the vice president of antifa.
Meanwhile, the state department has urged all American’s to leave Venezuela because there are militias looking for American citizens. I’m starting to wonder how well this whole thing has been thought through.
It’s not a personal attack. You were informed at the time that you were not publishing the candidate list for the city position. You said you were working on obtaining the list. That is public information and you should have been able to obtain it. Would they not furnish you with the list? Did the city refuse to furnish you with the list or did you go along with the city and not publish the list because the fix was in? Why did you not publish the candidate list? It would have shown that there were other people more qualified. Thomas Whitley was no more qualified for that position. You would have been more qualified.
Please explain why you did not publish the candidate list for that job position. Would they not furnish you with the list or did you choose to not publish the list?
Steve,
Your hit pieces on Matlow and Porter are getting old and only highlight that you are a shill to the city manager when you ignore the absolute immorality, fiscal irresponsibility, and corruption by the other three. It’s sad to see that you could be sold out for so little.
Your blind eye to the mayor’s swinger’s friend being hired at taxpayers expense when you could have stopped that hire by publishing the names of the candidates for the job and you refused to because the fix was in for Thomas Whitley’s hire. This has been swept under the carpet for long enough. Grow up Steve!
Anonymous personal attacks like these demonstrate a major lack of courage.
