On Saturday at 3 p.m., on the ACC Network, the Seminoles will host the Central Arkansas Bears.
Central Arkansas is 2-2 on the year with wins against UT-Martin and Central Oklahoma and losses to West Florida and SE Missouri State. This is the first meeting between the two programs. This is Coach Mike Norvell’s first game against his alma mater.
Observations from the last game
The offense took a huge leap during the bye week. Daniels played his best game of the season passing for 377 yards and scored 3 total touchdowns. He also spread the ball around connecting with 7 different receivers. The offensive line played better until the middle of the game when Alabama defensive line took over while FSU was trying to make adjustments.
The defense came out on fire helping the ‘Noles take a 21-6 lead. Then Alabama went pass first and scored on 9 straight possessions. FSU was unable to get any pressure when rushing 3 or 4 giving Russell all day to throw. The only time the Seminole got to the QB was when they blitzed and Alabama started picking it up as the game progressed. When Alabama was running out the clock and FSU needed a stop defensive coordinator Tony White let the linebackers hang back instead of blitzing and had the Desir brothers playing nose tackle when their natural position is defensive end.
The special teams were underwhelming as well, especially after kick returner Sam Singleton went out with an injury.
Florida State offense versus Central Arkansas defense
When the Florida State starters are in the game, I expect them to work on the passing game and try to keep Kromah from getting beat up too much. After the starters come out, I expect them to use the backup running backs extensively. Players to watch out for on the Central Arkansas defense are linebacker Ashtyn Williams (47 tackles) and cornerback Bryson Adamoh (3 interceptions).
Florida State defense versus Central Arkansas offense
The Central Arkansas offense is led by quarterback Donovyn Omolo. Omolo has 670 yards passing to go with 6 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Omolo is also the team’s leading rusher with 360 yards and 2 touchdowns. Central Arkansas has three receivers that they like to get the ball to. Tyrell Pollard has been the big play guy averaging 20 yards a reception. Dakarai Anderson and Ty Durham have made some plays for the offense as well.
FSU should have no problem stopping the traditional running game but will need to stay in their lanes to keep the quarterback contained. The pass rushers should be able to get back on track as they are bigger, faster and stronger than the Central Arkansas offensive line. The secondary has been making mistakes and will look to clean it up on Saturday.
