Former Gilchrist Principal David Solz Under DOE Investigation

Former Gilchrist Principal David Solz Under DOE Investigation

Multiple sources have confirmed with Tallahassee Reports that officials from the Florida Department of Education Office of Professional Practice Services (PPS) were at Gilchrist Elementary School today interviewing teachers about a matter related to former principal David Solz.

It appears that at least eight teachers were scheduled to be interviewed.

Solz was removed as Gilchrist’s principal last summer after TR published a story about an inappropriate relationship with a married teacher.

After an internal investigation last year, Leon County Schools verified the relationship and stated the relationship was self-reported by Solz.

TR previously reported there was conflicting information about the specifics of the timing of when school officials were notified about the relationship.

Solz is currently working for Leon County Schools in the District office.

TR requested all documents related to the internal investigation in September 2018 and was provided notes from an interview with the teacher involved with Solz.

TR was told Solz was interviewed by Superintendent Rocky Hanna about the relationship and no notes were available. No other interviews were conducted.

TR was also provided notes from an interview of Solz conducted by District officials related to a different relationship in April 2018.

On September 4, 2018 LCS forwarded information to the PPS which included letters from Superintendent Hanna and an anonymous email sent to LCS Board member Alva Striplin detailing other allegations that Solz has denied.

PPS investigates alleged misconduct by educators in Florida who hold an educator’s certificate and pursues disciplinary actions against the educators found to have committed acts of misconduct.

The PPS investigates when facts are presented which show a violation has occurred as provided in s. 1012.796, Florida Statutes, and defined by rules of the State Board of Education.

Such facts provide the basis to further investigate whether the educator has broken the law or violated the Principles of Professional Conduct.

  1. Good thing he is being investigated since the superintendent plans to place him as principal in a school next year. Of course he sees the indiscretion as no different than what he did at Leon.
Oh how I regret my support of Hanna during the election but I will only be a fool once. He is the worst thing to ever happen to Leon County Schools.
Remember all those retired folks he would get rid of? You know the ones currently helping to run the district? Marvin Henderson, Jo Marie Olk, D J Wright, and on and on…

    1. Gillum calling for impeachment is much like Rocky Hanna stating year after year at graduation speeches “having no children of my own…” Gillum and Hanna both believe the are untouchable. Sooner or later enough people come forward to set the record straight…

    1. Given the history of Rocky Hanna who admitted he wrote numerous summaries in a notebook filled with innuendo, doesn’t anyone find it strange that such a crafty author kept no notes from an interview with David Solz? More preposterous is the notion that a superintendent who has constitutional responsibility interviewed a principal who may be under a future investigation kept no notes from an official interview? How in the world did Mr Hanna author a letter to the Department of Education without remembering exactly what the issues were? We know that Mr Hanna has difficulty remembering things like not paying child support for 10 years until sued.

    1. Rocky Hanna who dated a teacher when he was Principal of Leon High that he supervised and evaluated that later forced the teacher to transfer to another school when she ended the relationship along with receiving a financial settlement with our tax dollars because of what Rocky did, that Rocky Hanna interviewed David Solz? Only in Leon Schools could this happen, worse no interview notes? Talk about unethical.
