Questions
What motivated you to run for local office?

“Quite frankly, the refusal of the city to act in the interest of the citizens is my main reason for running.”

What unique perspective would you bring to the position?

“I’ve lived in several different economic strata, many different cities, have attended many different universities or taught in them. These experiences allow me to use different perspectives in making decisions.”

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing Tallahassee?

1. Quality education
2. Economic equity
3. Affordable Housing
4. Private prisons
5. Public transport

What is your plan to address these challenges?

“In each case the answers are fairly straightforward. Everyone knows what the solutions are, but there seems to be no WILL to actually fix the issues. It’s time to put the solutions on the table.”

Responsibilities of the City Commissioner position include setting City policies and setting tax rates. It has a four-year term length and annual salary of $39,588.00. The primary election date is August 18 and the general election date is November 3.

  1. Everybody already knows what the solutions are? That’s your answer? Talking like a true Democrat, a big “nothing burger”.

  2. A lot of feel good slogans, who isn’t for focusing on truth? She didn’t give a meaningful answer to any of the questions. It was all feel good Pol speak.

  3. Thanks to Tallahassee Reports for this article. I’d invite those who question my stance on the issues to look at my web site, my FB page and watch the many Forums I completed. In those public places I’ve delineated my positions. It would not be possible to explain my positions in this short intro article. If you need to know more, you may consider looking in the many places where explanations exist. But be very sure,I have very well considered ideas and suggested solutions.

  4. It’s difficult to assess any candidate who is so vague and doesn’t mention specific examples. Perhaps Ms. Seay has done that elsewhere, but I don’t see it here. Phrases like “economic equity, public transportation” just seem a re-wording of “social justice, sustainability” and other liberal mantras.
obama was very vague and non-specific when he was running back in 2008 – by design. He wouldn’t have been elected if he was direct about his intentions. Can’t tell from Ms. Seay’s remarks above whether she leans liberal or conservative, but the few phrases mentioned indicate she leans liberal. Conservatives are generally emphatic and direct about their value systems and examples of issues and problems they want to improve. Liberals like to use vague platitudes and feel-good phrases – until they get in office.

    1. Did you watch the Tallahassee Democrat candidate forum for this race?

This is the candidate that called out Curtis Richardson on lying about accepting bundled contributions. Curtis Richardson said that he does not and never has accepted bundled contributions and Ms Seay called Curtis Richardson out on it.

This is one of the most significant moments in this election cycle as Curtis Richardson is exposed in a candidate Forum on video stating a falsehood.

Not only does Curtis Richardson accept bundled contributions he votes favorably for environmentally sensitive projects that benefit his bundlers.

The Tallahassee Democrat did expose this in an article.

If Curtis Richardson lies about something this significant what else is he lying about?

Why won’t Curtis Richardson and Elaine Bryant divulge what was in the text between them on the night that Elaine Bryant was appointed to a city commission seat?

Curtis Richardson also stated that there was no corruption in Tallahassee. How can anyone vote for someone so far removed from reality?

      1. Thanks for the info, Hope. I didn’t see the Democrat forum (cancelled that “paper” a decade ago), but glad to know Ms. Seay did stand up for ethics among our elected officials. I’m just so wary of liberal or liberal-leaning candidates that unless they’ve definitely done something to indicate they’re ethical and deal in common sense and economic realities, I wouldn’t vote for them. I’m not decided on Ms. Seay but appreciate you pointing out her rebuke of Richardson. Ethics in Tally elected officials is extremely rare, sad but they wrote their history themselves. “No corruption”? Makes you wonder if Richardson even understands the difference between right and wrong, or speaking the truth.

        1. I don’t believe Curtis does understand the difference between right and wrong as he is constantly manipulating and defending his wrong actions and the wrong actions of others. He benefits from these wrong actions and that’s what makes it even worse.

I am voting for Bill Schack in this race as he is conservative and clearly what we need in office.

  5. Seems like a very interesting lady. Certainly versed and educated. However, not very substantive when it comes to answering direct questions. Vagueness is not very effective at this stage of the campaign cycle. Researching her website does show some very interesting ideas and “concepts” worthy of further exploration – particularly with respect to education – but not much meat on the bones when it comes to a deeper considerations of application and implementation.

And again… more declarations of the existence of systemic inequities, without any specific or supporting data or facts to validate such claims. Mrs. Seay seems to have made some great accomplishments in her life and careers, and she should be role-modeling the personal fortitude it took for her to achieve her success. She should avoid the global perspective, and keep it local and attainable… with substance.

Best of luck to all candidates, and thank you for the courage to step to the plate to be considered for the honor of service.

  6. This is a very smart candidate who has wonderful views regarding education and performed very well in the Tallahassee Democrat candidate forum.
