County Commissioners Approve Plan to Build Community Confidence in COVID-19 Vaccine

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, Leon County has been working alongside the Florida Department of Health in Leon County to engage, educate and protect the community through effective public health messaging. At their Jan. 26 meeting, the Leon County Commissioners voted to launch a public health communications plan that will target minority and disadvantaged communities and aim to build confidence in the COVID vaccine.

“The County recommends a coordinated communications effort to synthesize and support community-wide efforts to build trust and confidence in the vaccine, specifically by engaging with the community task force chaired by Dr. Elaine Bryant and with Ron Sachs Media Group,” staff reports.

The communications plan will be guided by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for vaccine communication, including sharing accurate messaging and maintaining two-way dialogues with communities.

The CDC also recommends that communication strategies “empower health care personnel by promoting confidence in their decision to get vaccinated and to recommend vaccination to their patients,” according to the meeting agenda.

The County plans to leverage multiple communications tools for the campaign, including print and media channels through Capital Outlook and LIVE Communications. According to the meeting agenda, County staff has also already met with Rev. R.B. Holmes and Capital Outlook staff to discuss how to reach minority communities and encourage them to take the vaccine.

  1. I certainly hope the “flu” will be tracked like covid going forward. I guess the upside is covid has cured cancer, tb, hiv, the clap. What nonsense!

  2. The feedback I have received on the vaccine ranges from:
    1. People trying any way they can to get the vaccine ASAP.
    2. People who are saying, let’s see what happens with vaccine before I get it. They are not ‘early adopters’, and probably aren’t with other new medical breakthroughs.
    3. People who are anti-vaxxers.
Will you and I change those people – probably not.

  3. Those people are the reason why no one trusts the vaccine to begin with! The best thing they can do is keep their prevaricating pie holes shut. If the politicians are selling it… I ain’t inclined to buy any of it.

  4. Why does the county think minority populations don’t understand the importance of vaccines? If they do an outreach campaign it should target the entire community, not piece meal to different demographics. The county needs to get the vaccine available in more locations than just one county health department site. Can we get DeSantis to open some Publix’s for vaccines in Leon county?

  5. “They seem to be advertising that they don’t think minorities are very smart and they need their own separate publicity outreach campaign. This is so insulting and misguided as there just are no words to describe it.”

Worth repeating, Hope, as you have highlighted the dirty little reality in this scam. The real bigots will always expose their true racism under the guise of “caring” for the “less fortunate”. And you’re absolutely correct about their mindset here. What the are really saying is that “you people of color are too stupid to know what’s good for you, so we’ll have to convince you to do as we say”

    … excellent post

  6. Well lets see now 100% of the leftist voter base in the Tallahassee/Leon County will comply with masking, vaccines, and whatever else is thrown at them.
So who exactly are our Benevolent Nanny Leadership reaching out to?
The only sure thing takeaway here is that local Benevolent Nanny Leadership favorite “Usual Suspect” Ron Sachs Media Group is gonna get paid enough of the really Big Bucks to insure some REALLY REALLY large campaign contributions be “DONATED” to our Benevolent Nanny Leadership.
Thank you Great Honorable Benevolent Nanny Leadership! Where oh where would we ever be if we had honest leadership in charge?

  7. Just when you think The Usual Suspects can’t top their taxpayer-funded publicity stunts, disguised as public service announcements – couldn’t get any worse- they seem to have outdone themselves…once again.

They seem to be advertising that they don’t think minorities are very smart and they need their own separate publicity outreach campaign. This is so insulting and misguided as there just are no words to describe it.

This needs to be investigated by the Attorney General’s Office on so many levels.

  8. Frank, it is necessary to waste all that money you give them and show that they really, really, really care bout their citizens. Next up? Covid stress ball squeezees, bottled water, and starbucks coffee. Because, well, we give them money.

  9. When you have to spend/waste taxpayer dollars on a mass manipulation campaign to convince those very taxpayers to line up for two shots of a taxpayer-funded cocktail of sugar water and fertilizer byproduct – after years of a coordinated campaign of hate, lies, mistrust, and deception in order to steal power over said taxpayers – then your “plan” was/is doomed from the start. What’s even worse is that you don’t even recognize it for your lust of control.

The political Frankenstein Syndrome never ceases to amaze.
