LOCAL NEWS

Last night the Leon County School Board held a public hearing noticing the proposed curriculum for sex education in Leon County schools. After hearing comments by several parents, Board members Laurie Cox and Alva Striplin-Smith said that they could not vote for the proposed curriculum until changes were made. Story to follow.

The Tallahassee City Commission is considering staff’s recommendation to approve the submission of an application for the Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure (BICI) Grant in the amount of $1,000,000.

A Tallahassee man was arrested in connection to an online sting targeting child predators. Four individuals were arrested in the last week as a result of an undercover online investigation centered around Bainbridge, Georiga. Fudencio Tum, Alex Harvey, David Salas were Georgians arrested, and Jason Zaborske from Tallahassee was arrested. 

Another Tallahassee man entered a no contest plea deal in connection to a 2019 stabbing spree. Antwann Brown appeared before a judge Tuesday morning and pleaded no contest to five counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault. Brown will be sentenced at a later date. The incident occurred September 11, 2019 and is accused of stabbing five co-workers at Dyke Industries in Tallahassee. 

FLORIDA NEWS

In Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ State of the State speech to open the 2023 Florida Legislative Session, he said, “We will stand strong, we will hold the line, we won’t back down and I can promise you this: you ain’t seen nothing yet.” DeSantis urged lawmakers to pass an expansive agenda to ban transgender care for minors, impose lawsuit restrictions for businesses, crack down on illegal immigrants and grant protections to teachers while preventing union dues from being automatically deducted from their paychecks.”
 
Florida State Sen. Jason Brodeur’s recently criticized “blogger bill” has received the condemnation of Fox News contributor and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Gingrich called it “insane” but Brodeur on Twitter, said “It brings the current pay-to-play scheme to light and gives voters clarity as to who is influencing their elected officials, JUST LIKE how we treat lobbyists. It’s an electioneering issue, not a free speech issue.” 

SPORTS NEWS

FSU basketball fell in their first game of the ACC tournament to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 61-60. Georgia Tech’s Ja’von Franklin made the game-winning free throw with 0.3 seconds remaining. The Noles finished their season with single-digits wins: nine.

  1. Brodeur is right. Some political blogs take money to electioneer instead of report and transparency would be welcomed!
