The most recent information from the Florida Department of revenue shows that consumer spending in Leon County-as measured by taxable sales- was up in March by 3.5% when compared to spending one year ago. In absolute terms, spending in March 2023 was up $14.7 million to $439.2 million. These numbers are preliminary and are subject to revisions.
On Sunday morning, at 12:50 a.m., the Tallahassee Police Department reported a fatal traffic crash near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Monroe Street. TPD reported that the pedestrian, an adult male, succumbed to his injuries on scene.
The Tallahassee Police Department is commemorating pride month by outfitting themselves with a new pin that will be displayed on their uniforms. They made the announcement on Facebook where they said “”we are celebrating the diverse community we have the privilege of serving – as well as honoring our own employees – by wearing rainbow Pride pins throughout June.”

PLEASE follow this article up with another stating how much these pins cost, if wearing them was mandatory, and who (taxpayers?) paid for them.
Combined with the spike in property taxes, allegedly to pay for more cops/cop stuff, this makes me ill.
What if TPD shows up at a domestic fight involving a gay teen and their straight parent? Wouldn’t that send a message to the parent that the cops will automatically side with the teen?
Looking forward to December, when TPD can wear crosses to celebrate the birth of Jesus…oh wait, that’s probably against the law…
What is next month’s pin gonna be for? When is white boy day? I think the cops should all wear pledge pins during rush week. You know, to support the community…
Rosemary, I haven’t treated anyone in the pride community unkindly or disrespectfully. I have not mocked them even though some of them have mocked me and my religious beliefs.
Your comment has not addressed any of my objections to police officers wearing political pride pins. You did say you think police officers are wearing pins as a reminder to treat people fairly. But, according to the article, the TPD said on Facebook, they are wearing them to celebrate a diverse community and honor their employees. I’m pointing out, they are celebrating just one particular group in the community and honoring only employees who are not heterosexual for the fact that they are not heterosexual. I think that is wrong and that does not make me unkind or disrespectful.

Little Flower, being religious doesn’t have to (arguably shouldn’t if following any of the edicts of religious faith and scripture that I know of) mean we need to treat those who understand God or scriptural teachings or simply act on them differently than we do unkindly. I wear a multi-colored flag to church from time to time because I want anyone who is struggling with same sex attraction and anyone who loves someone who is LGBTQ+to know in any place of worship I’m in that I know that they are as much a child of God as I am and deserve to be treated as such always. I’d wager that the pins are intended to remind officers and declare publicly that law enforcement acknowledges them and will treat them with the same care and respect as they do all citizens.
Whoever authorized the wearing of this pride pin should be demoted one pay grade for poor judgement.
Were I a TPD officer, I believe I would quietly just “accidentally” pin that rainbow badge upside down is a way to quietly protest. Or maybe “accidentally” pin it loosely and “possibly” lose it. I wonder, as a citizen, who paid for the pins?
Adding to Edward’s comment, I don’t think it’s right that heterosexual police officers must wear a pin all month honoring their co-workers for not being heterosexual. Maybe that could be addressed in their employment contract.
Also, police officers have freedom of religion. They should not be forced to wear pins that support something that is against their religious beliefs.
I wonder if they would wear a “Hetero Pride” pin, or a “Straight Pride” pin… how about a “Biological Male/Female Pride” pin?… or a “Family Pride” pin, or “Combustion Engine Pride” pin?… or a “GOD PRIDE” pin…
Something tells me that none of those would be allowed, thus supporting Little Flower’s train of thought.
Jack, yes, you have armed government employees, with arrest authority, wearing political pins in support of a particular group in the community. Where does that leave the citizens who are not part of that group or who are not politically supportive of that group?
To Little flower: Good point- the “Rainbow/Pride” pins project a bias. Could see how the Police Dep’t’s employees wearing the pins, might throw out a court case or even worse – used against the City in a lawsuit …….any different than the police wearing Black Lives Matters pins ? Surely children @ City’s Legal Department had considered the ramifications. Just Say’n
Not that anyone cares, but police officers wearing rainbow Pride pins make me very wary of them. Whatever issue arises, I feel like they have already sided against me. Hopefully, I won’t have any encounters with them.

WHAT!… are you freak’n kidding me? Just so everyone understands, the rainbow and unicorn were commandeered by the Pedo and Groomer Class for the express purpose of targeting children.
Are TFD and TPD required to wear a rainbow flag pin recognizing mutilation and grooming of children?
The cuts that DeSantis made were far less than the cuts last year. Claiming them as “too severe” just because you don’t like them is childish.
State Senator Joe Gruters is just going to have to deal with it and make do with what he got. Spinning it to make it look like a personal attack on YOU is easy, but it can come back to bite you in the backside………you’ll see.
