LOCAL NEWS

According to filings with Leon County and the City of Tallahassee, the number of single-family new construction permits were up 78.1% in June 2025 when compared to June 2024. Permit values were up 42.1%.

A recent audit of Leon County’s financial statements found five “material findings,” meaning the county is at a higher-than-normal risk of funds being misappropriated, lost or stolen.

FLORIDA NEWS

Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds raked in more than $10 million during the year’s second quarter through a political committee and his campaign account, according to newly filed finance reports.

Florida had an estimated 6,035 first-time unemployment claims during the Fourth of July week, the lowest number since 5,698 claims were recorded during the holiday-shortened Memorial Day week, according to a U.S. Department of Labor report issued Thursday.

A federal judge in New Hampshire issued a nationwide block yesterday against President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship. The decision comes nearly two weeks after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to limit federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions on Trump’s executive orders but left open the possibility in the case of class-action lawsuits.
